Struttin' & Cluckin' Calling Contest Rules

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS 

  1. All contestants must be ticket holders for the 2024 BHA North American Rendezvous. Contestants should have a ticket to prove at the competition. Youths 10-13 years old do not need a ticket. Tickets can be purchased online or be purchased on-site on the day of the event. 
  2. The competition will be split into three categories: Open (Diaphragm Calls or Natural Voice), Friction (Box & Slate Calls), and  Youth (10-17 Years Old).  
  3. Participants can choose either Open or Friction categories, or both! 
  4. Youth participants may choose any type of call to compete 
  5. Contestants 17 years old and younger may enter the Youth Division 
  6. Contestants 18 years and older must enter either the Open or Friction Call Divisions 
  7. The competition starts on 4/20 at 11:00 AM. Callers are expected to arrive at 10:45 to determine the order and remain available until the contest concludes or they are knocked out. 
  8. Failure to show up for the roll call results in disqualification 
  9. All rules will be reviewed and questions answered prior to the contest. 

CALLING CONTEST GUIDELINES 

Round 1 - Individual Calling Sequence 

  1. Callers will be asked to provide a 1-minute (or less) calling sequence emulating a real-life scenario.
  2. Calls may include but not be limited to: tree call, a plain yelp of the hen, cutting of excited hen, adult hen assembly call, fly-down cackle, kee kee run, cluck, purr, jake yelp, and mature tom gobble. 
  3. A minimum of two (2) and no more than four (4) calls will be required per sequence.
  4. Props, such as scratching or wings for fly-down scenarios, may be used to create realism.
  5. Each caller will be asked to present their calling sequence to a panel of 3-5 judges.
  6. Callers will each be given a score of 1-10 in the following categories: 

              -Realism (How much you sound like the real thing in the woods!) 

              -Variety (Show your ability to make a wide array of calls) 

              -Clarity (How loud and clear your calls are) 

              -Style/Stage Presence (That’s Right, you will be judged on the amount of flare you bring to the stage!) 

Round 2- Head-to-Head Competition 

  1. After all scores are totaled for each division, the top 2 callers from each division will be asked to go head-to-head to determine a winner.  
  2. Contestants will be asked to give the same call as their competitor (ex. both yelp, both kee kee run, both owl hoot, etc). until a winner is selected. Up to 3 calls will be asked for in the head-to-head competition.   

WINNERS & TROPHIES 
Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category
